Qur’an 7:54 - Creation in 6 or 8 days?

The Qur’an is telling us in Qur’an 41:9-12 that the earth was created in 8 days. However in Qur’an 7:54, 10:3, 11:7 it is in 6 days.

Qur’an 41:9-12 – 8 days

According to 41:9-12 the creation of the earth is in 2+4+2=8 days. Some Muslims claim that in Qur’an 41:11: “THEN turned he to the heavens...”, the Arabic word ثُمَّ should be translated into “moreover”. That should open an explanation of the creation of the earth in 6 days. However, according to all authorized Arabic-English dictionaries, ثُمَّ should be translated into “then” [1]. All authorized Qur’an translations, including Sahih International, Pickthall, Shakir, Dr. Ghali and Muhsin Khan translate ثُمَّ into “then”, only Yusuf Ali translates ثُمَّ into “moreover”. There is no reason to put Yusuf Ali at a higher level of authority, since most Muslims put Sahih International on top.

Qur’an 7:54, 10:3, 11:7 – 6 days

The creation of six days in Qur’an 7:54, 10:3, 11:7 is in agreement with the Bible [2]: “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” (Genesis 2:2-4).

Since the Qur’an is a mix of Judaism, Christianity and other sources earlier than Muhammad, it is logical that Muhammad the final compilation of the Qur’an has a contradiction about the creation of the earth.
