Contradictions in the Qur’an
The Qur'an is the holy book of Islam. According to traditional Islam, the Qur'an is perfect (Quran 2:82, 85:22). It is possible to compare the 6346 verses in the Quran if they are not opposite. Verses can contradict each other when a combination of statements, ideas, or characteristics conflict. The Qur'an has been researched and as a result a number of contradictions have been found between the Quranic verses. Some of the contradictions discovered have been refuted because it can be applied to certain situations or circumstances. However, most of the contradictions could not be resolved. Some examples of the more than a hundred contradictions in the Quran:
1. Allah
Allah guides to the truth or not?
- "Allah guides to the truth: Say: "Of your 'partners' is there any that can give any guidance towards truth?" Say: "It is Allah Who gives guidance towards truth, is then He Who gives guidance to truth more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? what then is the matter with you? How judge ye?" (Qur'an 10:35)
- "Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but We have thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients." (Qur'an 6:25)
- "Allah leads astray: We sent not a messenger except (to teach) in the language of his (own) people, in order to make (things) clear to them. Now Allah leaves straying those whom He pleases and guides whom He pleases: and He is Exalted in power, full of Wisdom." (Qur'an 14:4)
Did Allah forgive worshiping of the calf?
- "And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong. Even then We did forgive you; there was a chance for you to be grateful." (Qur'an 2:51-52)
- "The people of the Book ask thee to cause a book to descend to them from heaven: Indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were dazed for their presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them; even so we forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority." (Qur'an 4:153)
- "Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed." (Qur'an 4:48) Also Qur'an 4:116.
- "Those who took the calf (for worship) will indeed be overwhelmed with wrath from their Lord, and with shame in this life: thus do We recompense those who invent (falsehoods)." (Qur'an 7:152)
2. Angels
Satan: angel or jinn?
- "Satan is one of the angels: And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith." (Qur'an 2:34). It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate." (Qur'an 7:11).
- "Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Is it not His to create and to govern? Blessed be Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!" (Qur'an 7:54).
- "Creation in 8 days: Say: Is it that ye deny Him Who created the earth in two Days? And do ye join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds. He set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measure therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four Days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (Sustenance). Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and to the earth: "Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly."
