Peace in the Gospel

Introduction

What can one person do to make peace on earth? The Gospel of Jesus Christ has no other program for world peace other than righteousness, which starts in your own heart. The solution is very simple: follow Jesus Christ. Even under attack he healed his enemies (Luke 22:47-51). Jesus said: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9).

Activism for justice

Many people think that peace is a situation in which there is no violent conflict. The Biblical word peace also includes justice, that is healthy relations between people and countries, economic wealth and a good political system that serves the true interests of all people. For the view of an activist for justice, there are five options to act in society [28]:

- To accept the rulers and culture. To make the best of it and meanwhile try to continue religious practices as good as possible.
- To escape to another area. Moving to an isolated area to create the wanted lifestyle. In the Gospel, the Essenes were an example, they moved to the desert.
- Create an alternative culture. By their religion a group who wants to have purity, may have its own food and its own habits. The Pharisees are mentioned in the Gospel as an example of this option.
- Revolutionary violence. To change society by changing their leaders. The Gospel mentions the Zealots, who went this way. Also Muhammed used this option. Jesus had the same organisation and used the same words as them, however he never used this option.
- Messianic way. Founding a movement with a messianic leader without violence, but visible, real and threatening to both culture and leaders. Jesus, the Messiah used this way and said: ‘Follow me and take up your cross’. The new social order of the Messiah is now definitively in the world.

Making peace

The Gospel is a message of peace to every man and to the world. It is the plan of life that will remove conflicts inside of you, bring peace inside of you, peace with God and peace with the world. It is the greatest teaching of life ever given to man. Peace is also a contribution for social change, to correct injustice. In fact it can be interpreted as a spiritual attempt to transform the world into an ideal world, that is Gods Kingdom on earth. The Gospel practiced by both decision makers and all other people will bring peace. It is a judgment against makers of war and violence as crimes against the human race. Peace will come by making preparations for peace [29], all described in the Gospel:

- Awareness that every person is created by the Creator (John 1:1-4)
- Look at yourself and try to grow as peacemaker (Luke 4:1-13)
- Make yourself stronger by prayer, fastening and love (Mathew 5:48, 6:8-13, John 13:34-35)
- Feel the needs of other people (John 10:10)
- Self-control and self-discipline against violence (Mark 9:42, John 14:27, 16:33)
- Call for peace and stop using violence (Mathew 5:9)
- Take care about other people, even your enemies (Mathew 5:39)
- Awareness that your actions have an impact in the world (Mathew 5:13-14)
- Don’t judge other people (Luke 6:37, John 8:7)
- Follow Jesus Christ (Mathew 9:9, 19:21, Mark 10:21, Luke 21:8)

Doing the Gospel mentioned practices, there will be peace on earth. Love and good will over all the world, and for all the people of the world will exist. The superior behavior is that violent people feel direct that they miss honor and feel shame. The Gospel of Peace is not directed to prosperity, but to peace with God. In cases of conflicts we have confidence. The promises of Jesus Christ are peace in the midst of the storm in the case of problems (Mark 4:37-41). You will have a preview of paradise by peace in our heart. For many people this sounds as only theory and ‘not possible’ to put into practice. However, it works! Christians like Brother Andrew showed by visiting even violent Muslims, like Hamas warriors, that they accept the Gospel of Peace [30].

Prince of Peace

Jesus Christ is the ‘Prince of Peace’, who establishes a Kingdom of Peace where all people and all countries are to be healed of evil powers. The Prince Of Peace was announced by the prophet Isaiah: For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus Christ is the example for peace making. He loved peace and said: Jesus Christ is the true living and noble fellowship that was given to the world. His message was peace and good will. When we all follow him, there will be no war, bloodshed or evil conditions today.

Your position

You can overcome struggle in life by the Gospel of Peace. When you want to enter this Kingdom of Peace and want to experience peace, you should develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who said: Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light (Matthew 11:28-30). Is following Islam (which means full commitment) the resolution of the pressing problems of humanity? Why don’t you believe in Jesus Christ as Lord? Isn’t the love of God so great that Jesus Christ came down to earth to save us and cleanse us from all sins and to live forever? Why is there so much violence? Isn’t it true that Islam does not see or does not accept the sincere Jesus Christ, together with his teaching to love one another? Come to Jesus.
